Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible keypads and intercoms across Fort Worth, with most keypad replacements running $140 to $260 installed and intercom repairs ranging from $165 to $340 depending on what failed. We carry the common Mighty Mule parts on the truck, so we can usually get yours working the same day we show up. The way most folks discover the problem is simple: the keypad stops taking the code, or the intercom goes quiet on one end, and suddenly a gate that worked for years is a chore or a security gap. Usually the failure is in the wiring, the weather seal, or the keypad membrane itself, not the whole gate system.

Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To

We service Mighty Mule keypads and intercoms across the MM and FM series lines, including the MM260, MM360, MM371, MM372, MM560, and the FM145/FM350 gate operators. Before you order anything, look at the back of the keypad or the inside of the intercom housing: Mighty Mule prints a model number there, and matching that number is the only way to avoid buying a part that fits the mounting holes but not the circuit board. One gotcha we see in Fort Worth regularly: the older MM271 and MM272 keypads use a different wiring configuration than the newer MM371, so a keypad that looks identical from the front will not communicate with the newer control boards. We keep OEM Mighty Mule keypads and intercom modules in the truck, and we will tell you honestly if a quality aftermarket part does the same job for less. Gatewood Fence & Gate is an independent shop, not affiliated with Mighty Mule, but we have been working on their gear since before a lot of the current models existed.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Is Failing

  • The keypad beeps but the gate does not respond. This usually means the keypad is sending a signal the control board is no longer reading. We see it most often after a power surge or a lightning storm in Tarrant County.
  • You have to press the buttons harder or multiple times. That is the membrane wearing out. Texas heat and sun break down the rubber over time, and once the membrane cracks, moisture gets in and the contact pads corrode.
  • The intercom hums or crackles when you press the call button. Nine times out of ten it is a corroded wire connection at the intercom base, not the intercom itself. The humidity here makes uncovered connections fail faster than the part does.
  • One side of the intercom works but the other does not. If you can hear the visitor but they cannot hear you, or vice versa, the microphone or speaker lead has failed. This is a specific component failure, not a system failure, and it is repairable.
  • The keypad works after dark but not in direct sun, or the display fades. Heat expansion breaks solder joints and LCD connections. In a Fort Worth August, a keypad mounted on a west-facing brick column can hit 140 degrees surface temperature, and that shortens the life of every electronic part inside it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, a Mighty Mule keypad replacement runs $140 to $260 installed. Intercom repair runs $165 to $340 depending on whether it is a speaker, microphone, or wiring repair versus a full module swap. The range is driven by which Mighty Mule model you have and whether we can salvage the existing wiring or need to pull new wire through the gate post. Every quote includes the part, the labor, and the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. We price the job before we start, and that price is the price. You will not get a call halfway through asking for more money. If we find something worse once we open it up, we stop, explain what we found, and get your yes before going further. And the $40-off-any-repair-over-$200 standing offer applies to Mighty Mule keypad and intercom work just like every other repair we do.

DIY or Call Us?

Here is what you can safely check yourself: confirm the keypad lights up, make sure the gate operator has power, and look for obvious cracked or broken wire connections at the keypad itself. That takes five minutes and it helps us when you call. What you should not do is start rewiring a Mighty Mule keypad or intercom if you are not comfortable with low-voltage wiring, because a crossed wire can fry the control board, and a control board costs a lot more than a keypad. The intercom and keypad both run through the same control board, so a wrong connection there can take out the whole system. If you are unsure, call (817) 241-4067 and describe what it is doing. We will tell you honestly whether it sounds like a simple fix or something to leave alone, and we will not charge you for the opinion.
