LiftMaster Welding & Fabrication: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

When a LiftMaster gate hinge tears loose, a post cracks at the weld, or a bracket shears off, you need welding and fabrication done right on the gate and in the driveway, not a parts swap that ignores the metal underneath. We stock LiftMaster-compatible hinges, brackets, and replacement steel, and most welded repairs around Fort Worth run between $180 and $480 installed, with the price quoted and agreed before any work starts. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate starts dragging on one corner, or the opener groans and the gate barely moves, and the metal that was holding everything together has finally given up.

We’ve been welding gates in Fort Worth since 2001, and we fix the metal, not just the symptoms. Hal Gatewood grew up on the south side of Fort Worth, not far from Hulen Mall, and he’s still about ten minutes from where he went to school. He learned welding and metalwork at Tarrant County College in the late ’90s, and he’s been repairing LiftMaster gates all over this city ever since. Gatewood Fence & Gate is an independent service provider, not affiliated with LiftMaster, but we service their equipment every week and know exactly how their gates fail and how to build them back stronger.

Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To

LiftMaster builds a wide range of gate operators for residential and light commercial use, and the welded parts on the gate itself are what we’re usually called to fabricate. The most common LiftMaster units we see in Fort Worth are the LA400, LA500, CSL24V, SL3000, and the newer LiftMaster gate openers paired with steel or ornamental iron driveway gates. The part that fails is rarely the operator itself. It’s the gate leaf’s hinge brackets, the post mounting plate, or the fork bracket where the opener arm attaches.

Here’s a compatibility gotcha most owners don’t know: LiftMaster’s LA400 and LA500 series use different mounting bracket hole patterns than the older SL3000, and the fork bracket that ships with a new opener often doesn’t match the gate’s existing welded tab. If you buy the opener and just bolt the bracket through the gate tube, it works loose within months in Texas heat. The right fix is a welded plate tab, matched to the bracket, not a bolt-through. We measure the bracket, cut the plate to fit, and weld it in place, on site, so the opener arm has a solid anchor that won’t wobble.

When it comes to replacement parts, you have two choices: genuine LiftMaster parts or quality aftermarket equivalents. For most welded fabrication work, the steel itself doesn’t come from LiftMaster, because LiftMaster doesn’t sell gate steel. They sell the opener, the arm, the brackets, and the electronics. The metal we fabricate is domestic steel or powder-coated steel matched to your gate’s thickness and profile. For brackets and arms, we use genuine LiftMaster when the part is under warranty or when the fit is tight, and we use quality aftermarket equivalents when the part is just a steel plate or hinge that any decent shop can build. We’ll tell you which one makes sense and why.

Signs Your LiftMaster Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate drags on the ground or scrapes the concrete at one corner. That’s almost always a sagging hinge post or a broken weld at the hinge. The gate didn’t bend in the middle, the attachment point let go. We see this in Fort Worth neighborhoods like Wedgwood and Ridglea all the time, especially on gates installed on the black clay soil that shifts with every dry spell and downpour.
  • The opener arm clicks or jerks but the gate barely moves. The fork bracket or the welded tab has cracked, and the opener is pushing against a loose connection instead of the gate. Every cycle flexes the crack wider. Eventually the tab rips off entirely.
  • You can see a gap opening at the hinge pin or the hinge plate lifting off the post. Weld fatigue is real, and it’s slower than a snap but just as final. The gate still opens, so it’s easy to ignore. By the time you can see daylight through the weld, the fix is more than a touch-up.
  • The gate rattles or vibrates when the opener runs. Loose brackets resonate under the motor’s torque. If left alone, the vibration works the bolts out and chews up the bracket holes, turning a simple weld into a plate replacement.
  • A post is cracked at the base, or the concrete cap around it is spalling. That’s the worst case, because the post is the foundation of the whole gate. We can weld the post in place when the crack is repairable, but if the post is rusted through at ground level, it needs to be replaced, not patched. A gate sags in the hinge post, not in the middle, and that is where we start.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here in Fort Worth, most LiftMaster welding and fabrication jobs land in the $180 to $480 range, installed. A simple hinge re-weld runs $180 to $260. A broken fork bracket tab, where we cut the old tab off and weld a new plate on, runs $220 to $320. A post repair, where we weld a split post and add a gusset plate for strength, runs $260 to $420. A full post replacement with new concrete and a re-hung gate starts around $480 and goes up depending on post size and gate weight.

Every price includes the steel, the welding rod and gas, grind and prep work, and rust-preventive paint or cold galvanizing on the welds. We quote the job before we start, and the price does not change at the door. Fix the panel without the post and you’ll fix it twice, so we don’t do that.

We stand behind the work with the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing, on every job. We also offer $40 off any repair over $200, and a permanent 10% discount for seniors and veterans.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check a few things without touching a welder: look at the hinge plates for visible cracks, push the gate gently to see if it flexes at the mounting points, and listen for the opener straining. That tells you where the problem is, but it doesn’t fix it.

Welding a gate is not a weekend project for a homeowner with a flux-core welder from the hardware store. Welding on a gate that’s attached to an operator means working on steel under tension, often on a ladder, with the gate’s full weight resting on the part you’re repairing. A bad weld here can snap under load and drop a hundred pounds of steel onto a car or a person. If the part is electrical, touching the opener’s capacitor or control board without disconnecting the power can knock you off your feet. We say it plainly: hire a trained professional for this one. Show me the gate closing on its own and I’ll show you where it’s failing, but I’d rather fix it before it fails.

If you’re not sure what’s wrong, call us at (817) 241-4067. We’ll come look, tell you what needs welding and what doesn’t, and give you a written price before any work starts. No trip charge inside Tarrant County, and a free second opinion on any written estimate you’ve already got from someone else.
