Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

We stock Ghost Controls-compatible fabrication parts on the truck and weld them on site across Fort Worth, with most bracket and hinge-plate jobs running $145-$310 installed. Same-day service is usually available when we’re already in your part of town. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate starts dragging on one corner, the opener strains, or a bracket snaps clean off the post because somebody years ago tacked it on with a welder that was never meant to hold up to Texas wind and a 14-foot steel gate. We see it every week.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

The Ghost Controls line (AXDP, AXP, TSS1, and the newer GHO series) uses a few common mounting points that fail more than anything else: the post pivot brackets, the opener mounting plate, and the gate bracket that connects the arm. If your opener says Ghost Controls on the cover, the fabrication work is nearly always on the gate side, not inside the opener itself.

Here’s the gotcha most owners miss: Ghost Controls kits ship with galvanized or powder-coated mild steel brackets that are sized for standard 1-7/8″ or 2″ gate frames. If your gate was built with heavier 2-3/8″ tubing or square stock, the stock brackets either don’t fit, or they fit loosely and wallow out the bolt holes within a year or two. That’s when we fabricate a custom bracket to the actual tube size. We’re an independent shop, not affiliated with Ghost Controls, so we’ll tell you straight whether an OEM bracket or a heavier fabricated piece is the smarter money. In Fort Worth clay soil that shifts every rain-dry cycle, the fabricated option usually wins.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate drags or scrapes on the latch side. The hinge post has leaned or the lower hinge plate has pulled loose. A gate sags in the hinge post, not in the middle, and that’s where we start.
  • The opener arm clunks or chatters mid-travel. The gate bracket has worked loose from years of wind buffeting against the opener’s push-pull force. Every cycle hammers the bolt holes a little wider.
  • Fresh rust streaks run down the welds. That’s moisture in a cracked weld. In Fort Worth’s freeze-thaw winters, water gets in the hairline crack, freezes, and opens it wider. It’ll fail completely, not gradually.
  • The gate swings past its stop or bounces when it closes. The stop plate or catch has broken off or bent. That lets the opener over-travel and the gearbox takes the punishment.
  • You can see daylight through a weld or a bracket bolt hole. That means the steel around the hole has fatigued. Tightening it again won’t fix it. The metal around the hole is done.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the straight pricing for Fort Worth:

  • Bracket repair or reinforcement (weld on site): $145-$225
  • Custom fabricated gate bracket or hinge plate: $185-$310, depending on steel thickness and whether we need to match an existing pair
  • Opener mounting plate repair: $160-$250
  • Full hinge post and bracket rebuild (heavy corrosion or a cracked post): $280-$460, which includes cutting out the bad steel and welding in new

Every price is quoted and agreed before we touch a single weld. The range depends on how much of the original steel is salvageable and how thick the replacement needs to be. Every job carries the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if it’s not done right, we make it right, no runaround. The price you agree to is the price you pay.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check a few things safely: look for cracked welds, loose bolts, and rust streaks. Take photos and measure the tube size on your gate frame. But welding on a gate that holds a Ghost Controls opener is not a beginner job. A bad weld on the gate bracket fails under tension, and when it lets go, that arm swings free with enough force to hurt someone standing nearby. The bracket aligning the opener arm to the gate has to be dead-on; half an inch off and you’ll burn through opener gears in months. If you’re set on DIY, the only safe path is bolting on an OEM bracket that fits your exact post size. If the steel is cracked, warped, or you’re not sure, call us at (817) 241-4067 and let us look. We’ll weld it in your driveway and you won’t have to wrestle a gate off the hinges.
