Elite Welding & Fabrication: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

If you own an Elite gate and the weld joints are cracking, the frame is sagging, or a bracket has sheared off, we can help. Gatewood Fence & Gate stocks Elite-compatible weld-in replacement components and does all fabrication on site, right in your driveway in Fort Worth. Typical weld repair and fabrication work for an Elite gate runs $220 to $480 depending on the size of the frame and how much metal needs reinforcing, and in most cases we can have it done same day once we’re on site.

How owners usually find us: the gate starts dragging at the latch end, or a hinge bracket pulls loose from the post, or the gate just looks off - cocked at a slight angle that wasn’t there last month. You lean on it and feel flex. That’s not normal for an Elite gate. Their frames are built from square tube steel, and when they’re right, they don’t flex. When they flex, something is cracked, and a cracked weld only gets worse in Fort Worth heat and clay soil.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

We weld and fabricate for every Elite gate line you’ll find in Tarrant County. That covers the SL3000 and SL4000 slide gate operators with their accompanying steel gate frames, the CSW200 swing gate series, and the older Elite residential swing and slide models still running out in places like Aledo, Burleson, and Weatherford. The part that fails on an Elite gate is almost never the operator itself - it’s the weld where the gate frame meets the hinge plate, or where the rack attaches to a slide gate.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people don’t know: Elite slide gates use a bolt-on or weld-on rack that has to match the operator’s gear pitch. If someone welds a generic rack onto an Elite SL3000, the teeth bind and the motor burns out early - we see it regularly. Another Fort Worth-specific reality: clay soil shifts seasonally, so a gate that was square in March can be binding by August. We re-weld and then set the gate so it has honest clearance for how this ground actually moves.

When you call, we’ll ask whether the tag is still on the operator housing. Elite stamps model numbers inside the cover, and that tells us the exact rack spec and bracket set your gate needs. If the tag’s gone, we figure it out by measuring the gear pitch and the frame dimensions. We don’t guess, because guessing on a gate that weighs 400 pounds gets someone hurt or breaks a gearbox.

Signs Your Elite Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags at the latch end and scrapes the ground. A sagging gate means a weld has stretched or cracked at the hinge post - not that the middle of the gate is bent. Fix the weld and the sag goes away; straighten the panel and it comes back.
  • You can see a hairline crack around a weld joint, usually at a hinge or corner. Paint chips around a weld are the tell. The crack starts small, then Texas heat and humidity do the rest. Once the metal starts flexing, the crack grows visibly every month.
  • The gate rattles or vibrates when the operator runs. That vibration is loose brackets or a cracked weld at the drive point. An Elite operator is quiet when everything’s tight. Noise means something’s moving that shouldn’t be.
  • A hinge pin or bracket has pulled away from the gate frame. On an Elite gate, the hinge plate is welded to the upright. When that weld fails, the gate hangs on the remaining hinge and twists the frame. This is the most common failure we see on gates someone else installed in the last ten years.
  • The gate “walks” sideways or the rollers sit crooked on a slide track. Slide gates especially show this when the rear welds let go. The gate will look like it’s leaning against the track instead of riding square on it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, here’s what you should expect to pay for Elite welding and fabrication work - and you’ll get a firm price before any torch or grinder comes out of the truck.

What the job involves Typical installed price
Single weld repair (cracked joint, hinge bracket re-weld) $220 - $340
Reinforce existing frame (add gussets, strengthen sagging panel) $260 - $420
Weld-on rack replacement for Elite slide gate (parts included) $380 - $650
Full hinge-bracket replacement, both posts, reinforced welds $480 - $850
Complete gate frame rebuild (large driveway gates, steel cut and fitted) $900 - $1,800

What’s included: we bring our own welder, grinding tools, steel stock, and safety gear. You don’t supply anything. The price is quoted and agreed before we start - not an estimate that changes by the time we’re done. Every weld job carries the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If a weld doesn’t hold, Hal comes back and makes it right, no invoice, no argument.

What drives the price one way or the other: the thickness of the gate frame (older Elite gates used thicker wall tube than some newer ones), how much needs cutting out before we can weld clean, and whether we’re dealing with a standard driveway span or a double-leaf gate. We’ll tell you straight if a repair will last, or if the frame is too far gone and you’d be better putting money toward a new gate. That second opinion is free.

DIY or Call Us?

I’ll be the first to tell you what you can safely check yourself. Watch the gate as it opens and closes. Put your hand on the frame near each weld and feel for movement. Look for cracked paint and rust lines around the hinges. That tells you where the problem is. It doesn’t tell you how deep the crack goes into the tube steel.

Here’s where DIY goes wrong on an Elite gate: welding on a gate that weighs 400 to 800 pounds while it’s still hanging on its hinges is dangerous. If a hinge lets go while you’re under it, you can’t get out of the way fast enough. We’ve also seen people “fix” a crack with a flux-core welder from a box store, and within a year the repair looked like a stack of dimes that never fused. Then we cut out their work and weld it properly. An Elite gate deserves a clean weld with good penetration, done by someone who welds gate steel every week. Call (817) 241-4067 and we’ll come look. If you’re inside the county, there’s no trip charge. If another shop already gave you a written estimate, we’ll give you a free second opinion on it.
