DoorKing Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

If your DoorKing gate is dragging, sagging, or grinding when it moves, the hinge and roller assembly is most likely worn out, and we replace it same-day in Fort Worth, usually for between $285 and $465 installed, parts included. Most owners notice it first as a metallic grumble or a gate that suddenly needs a shove to close. We keep DoorKing-compatible hinges and rollers on the truck, so we don’t have to order parts and leave your driveway blocked for a week.

You’ll see the failure for yourself before it stops the gate entirely. The gate leans toward the latch side, the bottom roller shows flat spots, or the top hinge has visible gray metal dust around the pin. That’s not a cosmetic problem. The whole weight of a 300-plus-pound DoorKing gate rides on those two points, and Fort Worth’s heat and grit wear them faster than you’d think.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

We work on the full DoorKing slide and swing gate lines: the 9150, 9100, and 1600 series swing operators, plus the 9024, 9050, and 6100 slide systems. The hinge and roller components differ by series, and they’re not cross-compatible. A 9150 hinge has a bushing-and-zirc fitment that a 1600 arm won’t take, and the slide gate rollers are sized to the rail: 2″ V-groove on the 9024, but the 9050 uses a flanged wheel with a sealed bearing. We match parts by the model plate on the operator arm, not by what the gate looks like from the curb.

The usual question is OEM DoorKing parts versus good aftermarket replacements. Honest answer: for hinges and rollers, we’ll quote both when available. OEM is predictable, but the aftermarket rollers we carry for the 600-series frames use a better sealed bearing than DoorKing put on the 1990s-era original. In Fort Worth, dust intrusion is the real killer, and a sealed bearing lasts meaningfully longer around limestone driveways and caliche dust. We’ll show you the price difference and let you choose.

An independent note, to be clear: we’re not affiliated with DoorKing, and we don’t pretend to be. We’re a Fort Worth gate shop that saw enough DoorKing equipment on local driveways to justify training the crew on the brand, like we did for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls.

Signs Your DoorKing Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

  • Gate drags or scrapes the ground at the latch end. The bottom roller’s bearing collapses and the wheel stops rolling. It becomes a skid, and every cycle grinds the wheel into a flat spot. You’ll hear it as a low growl. That’s the roller telling you it’s done.
  • Grinding or squealing when the gate opens or closes. Grit gets inside the roller or the hinge bushing and acts like sandpaper. A shot of lubricant quiets it for a day or two, which is why so many Fort Worth owners end up replacing a part they babysat instead of swapping at the first sound.
  • Excessive wiggle when you push the gate by hand. Grab the gate near the latch and rock it. More than half an inch of play means the hinge pin and bushing are both worn. The gate still works, but it’s bearing on the operator arm at the wrong angle, and that’s how actuator failures start.
  • Gate sags on the hinge post and won’t latch properly. The hinge is where the gate leans, not in the middle. Every extra day of sag puts diagonal load on the post, and here in Fort Worth’s clay soil, a leaning post becomes a $900 repair if you don’t catch the hinge first.
  • Visible metal dust or rust-colored scale around the hinge pin or roller axle. That dust is the bearing or bushing eating itself. On Fort Worth gates that sit out under July heat, the grease bakes out of unsealed hinge pins, and once the metal is dry, it grinds. We see it most on gates installed before 2005 without sealed components.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, expect $285 to $465 for a complete DoorKing hinge and roller replacement on a single swing gate. A slide gate roller set runs $190 to $340. What moves the price is access, post condition, and whether we’re replacing one worn hinge or rebuilding both sides. The parts themselves, DoorKing-compatible or aftermarket sealed, are typically $65 to $140 per set.

  • Parts: $65 - $140 depending on series and roller type
  • Labor: $120 - $245 for hinge/roller swap on site, includes cleanup
  • Post shim or reinforcement: $0 - $85 if the post is still sound and just needs a plate
  • Second hinge (if both are worn): $45 - $95 additional

Every quote is written and agreed to before we touch a bolt. No phone price and no surprise invoice at the door. We also keep the standing offer: $40 off any repair over $200. We don’t wait until the end to mention it. And the whole job is covered under our 90-Day Done Right Promise, in writing, so if the gate isn’t right a month later, we’re back.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe halfway point. You can identify a failing hinge or roller, rock the gate, and check for the wiggle and grinding I described above. You can even snap photos of the model plate and call us with that number - it makes the phone estimate more accurate.

What I’d stop short of is unbolting a loaded gate. A DoorKing swing gate is heavy, and once you remove a hinge pin, that panel is looking for somewhere to fall. We’ve fixed hands injured by gates that came down on them, and we’ve seen gates dropped on the operator arm, which turns a $300 hinge job into a $1,200 operator replacement. The better call is to let Hal Gatewood or one of the crew handle it. Give me a call - that’s my real number, and I’ll pick up. (817) 241-4067.
