Here’s the gotcha most owners miss: Ghost Controls kits ship with galvanized or powder-coated mild steel brackets that are sized for standard 1-7/8″ or 2″ gate frames. If your gate was built with heavier 2-3/8″ tubing or square stock, the stock brackets either don’t fit, or they fit loosely and wallow out the bolt holes within a year or two. That’s when we fabricate a custom bracket to the actual tube size. • The opener arm clunks or chatters mid-travel. The gate bracket has worked loose from years of wind buffeting against the opener’s push-pull force. Every cycle hammers the bolt holes a little wider.

You can check a few things safely: look for cracked welds, loose bolts, and rust streaks. Take photos and measure the tube size on your gate frame. But welding on a gate that holds a Ghost Controls opener is not a beginner job. A bad weld on the gate bracket fails under tension, and when it lets go, that arm swings free with enough force to hurt someone standing nearby. The bracket aligning the opener arm to the gate has to be dead-on; half an inch off and you’ll burn through opener gears in months.
