Viking Gate Parts & Welding in Fort Worth: What to Know First

We’re an independent Viking gate service provider in Fort Worth, and we handle parts replacement and on-site welding for Viking gate operators, hinges, posts, and hardware. Most Viking gate repairs take one visit and a couple of hours, and we quote the price before we touch anything. Hal Gatewood started this shop in 2001, and we’ve been fixing Viking openers and gates since they started showing up in Tarrant County driveways. If your gate won’t open, sags, or the hinge is tearing loose, call (817) 241-4067 and talk to someone who can actually tell you what’s wrong.

How Viking Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Viking makes a solid residential operator, but like every brand, it has weak points. Here’s what we see on Viking gates in Fort Worth week after week:

  • Viking L-3 and G-5 hinge plates tearing at the weld. The operator itself is usually fine, but the hinge plate takes every pound of that gate panel all day. On the L-3, which shows up on a lot of Fort Worth single-swing gates, the plate will start pulling away from the post long before the gate actually falls. You’ll see a gap at the weld seam, then paint flaking, then a gate that drags. We grind the old weld clean, re-weld, and add a gusset so the same failure doesn’t come back in eighteen months.
  • Viking V-BEAM and V-SLIDE trucks snapping welds on the rail. Slide gates ride on steel wheels, and those wheels beat against the rail every cycle. On Viking slide gate models with bolt-on trucks, the bolts loosen, the truck shifts, and the gate starts grinding the rail sideways. Weld it in the wrong spot and you’ll warp the rail. We realign, weld cold where needed, and replace the wheel before it wrecks the track.
  • Post rot and rust at the weld line on Viking cantilever and swing gates. North Texas clay holds water, and it’s hard on steel posts. The weld line at the base of the post is where the rust starts. If the post is still straight, we can sand, prime, and reinforce. If it’s rotted through, the post gets cut out and a new one dropped in. The gate panel usually doesn’t need replacing, even when the post does.
  • Viking operator mount plates cracking from constant torque. The operator is bolted to a plate that’s welded to the post or pad. On heavier Viking gates, that mount plate will crack around the bolt holes over time. Symptoms are a gate that shudders or stops halfway, but the motor still hums. Reinforcing the plate and remounting the operator is a half-day job, and it saves you from buying a new opener way too early.
  • Latch and lock misalignment after ground shift. North Texas soil moves, and a gate post will lean a fraction of an inch. That’s all it takes for a Viking gate latch to stop catching. This looks like a latch problem, but it’s usually a post problem. We square the post or adjust the hinge points before we touch the latch. Fix the post and the latch lines right back up.

We’re not an authorized Viking dealer and we don’t pretend to be. We’re an independent Viking service provider, which means we can tell you when a part is worth buying OEM and when an aftermarket part is actually better for Fort Worth conditions. Sometimes the honest answer is that the Viking part is fine and the install was the problem.

Our Viking Gate Parts & Welding Process

Here’s how a Viking gate repair actually goes at Gatewood Fence & Gate, from the phone call to the test cycle:

  1. 1
You call, a person answers. We answer the phone. You tell us what the gate is doing. We ask about the model if you know it, or help you figure it out from the operator cover.
  2. 2
We show up and diagnose in person. We look at the operator, the hinges, the posts, the welds, and the gate travel. We don’t guess from a photo.
  3. 3
We give you a price before any work starts. You know what it costs before we pick up a tool. If we find something else while we’re in there, we stop and talk to you first.
  4. 4
Parts and welding happen on site. For most Viking work, the gate stays in your driveway. We weld on site, replace hinges and rollers on site, and swap operator parts in place. We use OEM parts when they’re warranted, and quality aftermarket when they’re the better call.
  5. 5
We test the gate through full cycles. If it’s a swing gate, we check the travel and the close. If it’s a slide gate, we watch the wheels and rail. The gate gets cycled until we’re satisfied it’s right.
  6. 6
You get the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not done right, one call brings us back. No fine print, no runaround.

Why Fort Worth Homeowners Call Gatewood Fence & Gate for Viking Work

We’ve been repairing gates in Fort Worth since 2001 and we’re not going anywhere. Hal Gatewood grew up on the south side of Fort Worth and learned welding at Tarrant County College in the late ’90s before he realized how many gate installs were done wrong. We repair first and replace only when it’s truly dead. Every job gets the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing, and a live person answers our phone around the clock. We work on Viking openers, but we also service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing, so if you’ve got a mixed-brand property, we can handle it in one trip. The person who answers the phone is the person who shows up. The name is on the shop, and the shop is down the road.
