Viking Gate Access Control in Fort Worth: What to Know First
We service Viking gate access control systems throughout Fort Worth as an independent Viking service provider, and most keypad, phone entry, and card reader issues are diagnosed the same day we show up. Repairs typically run between $180 and $650 depending on whether we’re replacing a board, a keypad, or rewiring a loop detector that’s been soaking in North Texas clay for a decade. If your Viking keypad works fine from the house but not from the street, or the gate opens fine but won’t close on its own, call us at (817) 241-4067 and we’ll tell you what we think before we ever set foot on your property.
This page is for the homeowner who already owns a Viking operator, keypad, or telephone entry system and wants someone who knows that equipment without reading a manual in the driveway. We’ve been working on Viking gear in Fort Worth since 2001, and Hal Gatewood grew up on the south side, not far from Hulen Mall, so when we say we know Fort Worth gates, we mean it.
How Viking Products Fail - and How We Fix Them
- Viking K-2 and K-3 keypads: moisture in the keypad body. The K-series keypads are common in Fort Worth, and in our experience the gasket behind the faceplate is the weak point. After a few years of Texas heat and sudden cloudbursts, the gasket dries out, water gets in, and the keypad starts dropping digits or ignoring the code entirely. We replace the gasket, dry and clean the contacts, and reseal the housing rather than selling you a whole new keypad.
- Viking FA-20 telephone entry: relay chatter and dropped calls. When we get called to a Fort Worth home with an FA-20 that buzzes instead of opening the gate, nine times out of ten it’s the relay on the board arcing from age, or a phone line that got replaced with VoIP without a filter. Viking’s phone entry units are solid but they don’t love VoIP voltage. We check the board, test the relay under load, and if the relay is failing, we replace that component rather than telling you the whole unit is done.
- Viking SLP series loop detectors: phantom holds and no-close failures. Fort Worth soil has a lot of clay, and that means shifting ground and cracked saw cuts in the driveway where the loop wire sits. On Viking SLP detectors we see a lot of “stuck open” or “stuck closed” faults that trace back to a nicked loop wire, not the detector board itself. We test the loop with a meter before we start swapping parts. No one should pay for a new detector because a lawnmower nicked a wire two inches under the sod.
- Viking E-30 and E-50 gate operators: capacitor failure after power flickers. Fort Worth gets its share of lightning and brownouts, and Viking operators with start capacitors take the hit. Your gate hums but won’t move, or it moves slow and trips the breaker. We keep compatible capacitors on the truck, replace them on site, and test the motor under load before we call it fixed.
- Viking wireless intercom and keypad pairing: worked yesterday, not today. We see a lot of Viking systems where a homeowner or a handyman replaced a garage door opener or a router, and the new device is kicking out interference on the frequency Viking uses. Before we sell you anything, we put our meter on it, find the conflicting signal, and move the channel or re-pair the units. That fix is often under $100 and takes twenty minutes.
Our Viking Gate Access Control Process
- 1
You call, we answer. A live person picks up at (817) 241-4067. You tell us what the gate is doing, we tell you what we think it needs, and we set a window we’ll keep.
- 2
We show up and listen. We want to hear what you’ve already tried and what another company told you. Then we get out the meter and start testing, starting with the power to the unit and the loop in the ground. A gate that won’t close is usually a sensor or loop problem, not the motor.
- 3
Parts decision, in front of you. If we need parts, we tell you what failed, what it’ll cost, and whether OEM Viking parts or a quality aftermarket equivalent is the better call for your situation. We don’t hide the choice from you and we don’t mark up parts into the stratosphere.
- 4
The repair happens on site. We replace, rewire, or reprogram right there in your driveway. We don’t haul your gate off to a shop unless the damage is catastrophic, which is rare.
- 5
We test it with you standing there. Open, close, interrupt the safety loop, try the keypad from the street, test the phone entry. You see it work before we leave.
- 6
You get the promise in writing. The 90-Day Done Right Promise goes on every invoice. If it acts up again in 90 days, one call brings us back. No runaround.
What Viking Gate Access Control Costs in Fort Worth
We’re going to give you real numbers because that’s how we like to do business. A Viking keypad replacement, including the part, usually lands between $180 and $340. Replacing a failed control board on a Viking operator runs $350 to $650 depending on the model and whether it’s the main board or a daughterboard. Fixing a phone entry unit like the FA-20 is typically $220 to $480. Loop detector repair or replacement, which means cutting and reinstalling loop wire or swapping a detector card, runs $180 to $450. If we find the problem is something small, we’ll tell you and charge you accordingly. The price is quoted and agreed before any work starts, and you’ll never see a bigger number at the end than the one we wrote down at the beginning.

Why Fort Worth Homeowners Call Gatewood Fence & Gate for Viking Work
The name on the shop is Gatewood, and Hal Gatewood is the man who answers the phone. That’s not a slogan; that’s how we’ve done business in Fort Worth since 2001. We weld on site, which means when a Viking operator mount cracks or a gate post shifts, we fix the metal where it sits instead of loading your gate on a trailer. Every job carries the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not done right, we make it right. And when a Viking system is beyond saving or a homeowner wants to change directions, we service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing operators too, so you’ll get a straight answer about whether to repair or replace, not a pitch for the one product we happen to sell. We’d rather fix a $2 wire than sell you a $2,000 operator. That’s just the truth.
FAQs
We’re not a Viking authorized service provider, so warranty claims have to go through Viking or the original installer, but we’re happy to diagnose the problem and document it so you’ve got a clear picture of what failed and what it should cost. If the warranty path works for you, we’ll hand you everything you need to make the case.
Most common Viking parts, including K-series keypads, relays, capacitors, and loop detector cards, are on our trucks or available from local supply houses the same day. If a board has to come from Viking directly, we’ll tell you that upfront and get it on order while we make the gate safe to use manually in the meantime.
If the operator is under 12 years old and the box and motor are sound, we almost always recommend repair. Viking builds their boards and relays to be serviceable, and we’d rather replace a $40 relay than a $900 operator. If the motor is seized, the box is rusted through, or you want smartphone access and your current system can’t support it, then we’ll talk replacement and give you a straightforward price on options from Viking or any of the other brands we service.
We answer calls around the clock, and in most Fort Worth neighborhoods we can be on site the same day you call or first thing the next morning. If your Viking gate won’t open and you’re stuck, we treat that as the emergency it is. Call (817) 241-4067 and we’ll tell you when we’ll be there and what to check in the meantime, like the manual release that’s usually located right on the operator.
Both. We do single-family Viking gates all over Fort Worth, and we also work on shared entries in smaller communities and commercial properties. If it’s a multi-unit system with a master panel, we’ll still give you a free diagnosis and a written estimate before any work begins.
Give me a call - that’s my real number, and I’ll pick up. We’ll talk through what the gate is doing, and if you want, I’ll come take a look. The price is written down before we touch anything, and if I can’t fix it, I’ll tell you that too. Call (817) 241-4067 and ask for Hal.
