How most Fort Worth owners find the problem is simple: the gate starts dragging on one corner, or it doesn’t sit square in the opening, or the opener strains to move it. You look closer and you see the crack. Maybe it’s been growing for months. Maybe a delivery truck clipped the gate and finished the job. Either way, BFT’s aluminum and steel components are strong, but Texas heat, rain, and a few thousand open-and-close cycles a year will find every weak point in the metal.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

Most of the BFT gates we weld in Fort Worth are residential swing and slide systems built on the Deimos, Phobos, and Rigel series. Those share common mounting geometry, which means a hinge bracket or post plate from one series often crosses to another. BFT commercial slide gates on the THALIA and ARIES lines show up too, mostly on ranches and business parks south of I-20 and up toward Saginaw.

The fastest way to identify what you need is to look at the gate itself, not the opener. The opener plate will show BFT’s part number for the motor, but the hinge and post hardware is frequently generic to the fabricator who built the gate. That’s the gotcha: a BFT opener mounted on an aftermarket gate means you’re matching steel dimensions, not a BFT part number. Take two measurements before you call anyone: the hinge post diameter and the distance from hinge center to the gate’s inside edge. We use those to match or fabricate the right bracket on the spot.

When a true BFT factory part is needed, we order it. When an aftermarket equivalent made from the same gauge steel saves you money and fits the same, we tell you that too and let you decide. Some Fort Worth shops will only sell you the OEM part at OEM markup. We’d rather you pay for the labor and the steel, not the sticker.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate tilts forward or leans on the post side. A failed hinge weld lets the gate drop out of square. You may see a clean crack at the bracket, or the steel may have torn around the weld itself. The post is usually still fine; the weld failed first.
• The motor hums but the gate shudders. If the drive bracket or rack mount has cracked loose, the opener can’t transfer force cleanly. The gate will jerk instead of glide, and the motor works twice as hard. Fix the weld now and you don’t buy a motor later.
• Visible rust bleeding from a joint. Fort Worth’s humidity plus the salt dust off the TX roads east of town will eat a raw weld in a few years. Rust at a hinge or bracket means water is inside the joint. That joint is already compromised.
• The gate bangs when it closes or rattles in the wind. A stretched or cracked weld at the latch side lets the gate move a half-inch when it should be fixed. That movement cracks more welds over time. It’s a slow thing until it stops being slow.
• Fresh scrapes or a dent near a post. If a teenager in a pickup tagged the gate on the way through, the metal didn’t just dent. It overstressed the nearest weld. Maybe it cracked. Maybe it’s waiting to. We flag it every time we see it because it’s the one people ignore.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the gate yourself: look at the welds with a flashlight, note where the cracks are, and measure the post diameter. That’s useful. What you should not do is fire up a borrowed flux-core welder from Harbor Freight and try to burn a bracket back on while the gate is still hung. A gate under tension is a dangerous thing to weld. If the weld pops while you’re underneath, that’s a few hundred pounds of steel coming down. You’ll also cook the powder coat off the surrounding metal and fight warping, and then you’re paying us to undo your weld before we do ours.
